A woman has sued three doctors and a hospital in another state after misdiagnoses of her medical condition. Illinois patients may be interested in the details of the alleged medical malpractice by misdiagnoses. The incidents happened in 2012, and the lawsuit was filed this past April.
The woman says she entered the emergency room at Touro Infirmary Hospital with stroke-like symptoms on August 13, 2012. She says that the doctor found nothing to be wrong with her even after an MRI, a CT scan, and blood testing. However, she allegedly had a blood clot in her left carotid artery that was missed by the medical personnel.
The physicians prescribed her medication and suggested that she go back to the hospital the next day for a follow-up. The woman then visited the same ER three days later with more severe symptoms than before. She was diagnosed with a stroke and admitted to the hospital. The blood clot was still not discovered or treated. After the woman suffered an acute stroke on September 6, 2012, the clot was found and treated.
The doctor defendants have been accused of misdiagnosis of a medical condition and professional negligence stemming from their failure to provide appropriate treatment and deviating from the correct standard of care. The accusation toward the hospital is that is failed to have a properly equipped facility and a staff unable to diagnose correctly. The hospital is also charged with allowing the woman to be discharged without proper diagnosis or treatment.
The woman’s suit is seeking damages of an unspecified amount. She claims the damages are for lost wages, medical expenses, physical and mental pain and suffering and for disability. Illinois attorneys may be able to help patients who suffer due to misdiagnoses.
