My Steering Wheel Fell Off – Is My Car Defective?

Posted on March 15, 2018 Auto Defects, Product Liability

If you are out for a drive and your steering wheel falls off into your lap – that’s not safe. A steering component that breaks unexpectedly and causes you to lose control of your car is a perfect example of a safety-related vehicle defect.

Earlier this week, at the urging of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Ford Motor Co. recalled nearly 1.4 million Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ cars because the steering wheels can detach from the steering column causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

To learn if your specific vehicle needs to be repaired as part of a recall, you can visit the NHTSA website to check it by Vehicle Identification Number (VIN): https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls.

If you were seriously injured in a car crash, call our office at (312) 828-9666 or send us an e-mail to schedule a free consultation with one of our lawyers. We can help determine if a defect in your vehicle may have contributed to the crash and whether there is a basis for a product liability case.
