On June 19, 2018, the International Academy of Trial Lawyers (IATL) released the following public statement denouncing the separation of children from their families at the U.S. border:

At the IATL annual meeting early this year, attorney Roman M. Silberfeld delivered a profound and prophetic call to action that we embrace in our work as trial lawyers and advocates for civil justice:
- Stand up to injustice.
- Speak up for those who do not have a voice.
- Act on behalf of those without the means to do so alone.
What is happening to children and families at the U.S. border is painful to see and hear. We are all from somewhere else. We must come together in order for this nation to thrive.
