Man claims son’s appendicitis was misdiagnosed

Posted on October 30, 2013 Failure To Diagnose

Appendicitis can be a very damaging medical condition. Prompt diagnosis and treatment of this condition can be extremely important. When such detection and treatment is delayed, it can result in a patient suffering an appendix rupture and other serious harms. Thus, it is essential for doctors and hospitals to not engage in negligence that could result in an appendicitis diagnosis being missed.

Recently, in the Chicago area, a case involving allegations of a misdiagnosis of appendicitis has arisen.

The case involves a hospital in one of Chicago’s suburbs, Naperville. A man says that, in November 2011, his son received care at the hospital. The man alleges that, during this care, his son was negligently misdiagnosed. According to the man, his son had appendicitis but was instead given a diagnosis of viral gastroenteritis.

The man claims that his son suffered a ruptured appendix due to this incorrect diagnosis. According to the man, the appendix rupture led to some of his son’s intestinal tract having to be removed.

The man has brought a medical malpractice lawsuit in connection to the alleged misdiagnosis. The lawsuit names the hospital and a doctor as defendants. The article on the Herald-News’ website which reported this story did not have any information regarding what specific relief requests were made in this lawsuit.

Medical malpractice cases involving allegations of diagnosis errors can be remarkably complex. Thus, having the representation of an experienced medical malpractice attorney can be of great importance when one is bringing a diagnosis error claim.
