Woman sues dentist for diagnosis errors involving crown

Posted on August 8, 2014 Failure To Diagnose

A dentist in another state was recently faced with a lawsuit filed by one of his patients. The patient claims that the dentist made a series of diagnosis errors that caused her more pain and suffering. Unfortunately, diagnosis mistakes can cause serious injuries to Illinois patients.

The woman went to her dentist for a crown to be placed on her tooth. Eventually, the woman started to feel uneasiness with the crown. The woman made her discomfort known, but claims that the dentist did not adequately diagnose her. Afterward, the woman made numerous complaints about pain, and in spite of that, the dentist purportedly continued to make mistakes in diagnosis. A certain period of time went by and the woman was still in a large amount of pain, until she sought care from another dentist.

According to the lawsuit, the crown was misplaced by the dentist and the diagnosis mistakes caused her to experience physical pain and suffering. It’s also alleged that the dentist failed to replace the misplaced crown with a new one. The woman is requesting an unspecified amount for mental anguish and medical costs associated with her injuries.

It’s important for medical professionals to accurately diagnose patients. Diagnosis errors, especially over a long period of time, can result in injuries and sometimes death for Illinois patients. Fortunately, the woman in this case was able to survive, but she still suffers from the alleged mistakes made by her former dentist. Patients who were injured by a medical care provider may have the right to file medical malpractice claims against the attending physician and/or medical facility to recover damages.
