Chicago hospital accused of negligent pregnancy care

Posted on September 11, 2013 Hospital Negligence

It is very important for hospitals to act properly when providing pregnancy-related care. This includes properly taking into account any conditions the mother has and taking proper steps to ensure that conditions that the fetus develops are detected and treated in a timely manner. Great harm can occur when hospitals act negligently in connection to pregnancy-related care.

Recently, a case involving allegations of this type of negligence has arisen here in Cook County.

The case involves a woman and pregnancy care she says she received at a hospital in Chicago. According to the woman, negligence occurred in relation to this care. Specifically, she claims that a blood clot disorder that she had previously been diagnosed with was not taken into account in this care and that her infant son should have been diagnosed with this disorder prior to his birth but was not.

According to the woman, this alleged negligence resulted in her son being born with lung-based blood clots, developing health problems and dying when he was only two. The boy’s death occurred in April.

In relation to these allegations, a lawsuit has been brought in a court in Cook County by the woman and her husband against the hospital. One wonders what will ultimately happen in this case.

As the allegations in this case underscore, negligent pregnancy-related care can sometimes result in a child’s death. No family should have to suffer the loss of a child because of hospital negligence. One hopes that hospitals are held accountable when they commit harmful or deadly negligence.
