Nursing errors can do irreparable harm to Illinois patients

Posted on September 17, 2014 Nursing Negligence

Nurses are some of the most hard-working individuals in our society. They work long hours on their feet each day, ensuring that their patients are well cared for. However, this does not mean that they are incapable of making a mistake, or of behaving negligently. Nurses often have extended contact with patients, meaning that nursing errors can have serious consequences for patients. Here at Gill Ports Hoste LLC, we have worked with numerous Illinois families who have been harmed by this type of medical malpractice.

Nurses are often responsible for administering medication, tracking patients’ conditions and telling doctors about pertinent information, as well as numerous other duties. If they do not fulfill these tasks to the best of their ability, for any reason, they risk injuring the very patients that are charged to their care. Our firm has a combined six decades of experience in litigating these types of cases and are dedicated to helping families hold those responsible accountable for negligent actions.

Some common nursing errors are:

  • misdiagnosing symptoms
  • not informing physicians of patient complaints
  • giving medication that is incorrect or the wrong dosage of medication
  • not keeping patient medical charts up to date

There are other potential mistakes they can make, and we are more than willing to explain options to clients who may be in this situation.

For those who would like more information, our webpage about nursing errors may be helpful. Illinois families who decide to file a medical malpractice claim against a nurse or another medical entity may be entitled to damages in the form of financial remuneration. Such monies could help them cover any costs that are likely to arise from such a potentially-devastating incident.
