Woman claims hospital negligence, files suit for broken hip

Posted on December 23, 2014 Hospital Negligence

The negligence of medical staff members and lack of appropriate care causes injuries to many patients. When Illinois patients are seriously injured due to hospital negligence, they often file medical malpractice claims to seek recovery of damages. In one case, a woman in another state filed a suit against a hospital after she was injured.

Back in 2009, the woman was at the hospital to have a mental health evaluation done. Since she was already diagnosed as having dementia, she was admitted because of heightened symptoms of being confused and having hallucinations. While she was at the hospital, it was determined that she was at risk of falling, but somehow, she still fell under the supervision of medical staff. According to the claim, the fall caused the woman to break her hip.

After the injury, she was required to have surgery and also physical therapy. She is requesting an undisclosed amount in compensation for emotional distress and physical injuries. She’s also seeking damages for the cost of medical care and loss of life expectancy.

Many serious injuries and long-term drawbacks are caused from hospital negligence. In this case, the woman apparently suffered from a broken hip, which has likely diminished her enjoyment of life. In court, both sides will be able to present their cases, and a determination will be made as to whether medical malpractice was properly documented. If negligence is established to the satisfaction of a civil court, then the woman may be awarded compensation. Patients who were injured while at an Illinois hospital or any other medical facility may want to speak with an experienced medical malpractice attorney to seek guidance and support concerning their legal options.
