Misdiagnoses lead to complaint of hospital medical malpractice

Posted on February 8, 2017 Failure To Diagnose

Hospital errors often lead to devastating results for families in Illinois and across the country. A complaint has recently been filed against a hospital in another state by a woman who claims her father died after medical malpractice. The woman alleges that misdiagnoses of her father’s condition as well as a delay in his treatment were the cause of his death in 2005. She is also seeking damages for the mental anguish she experienced as well as for her father’s suffering.

The woman’s father initially sought medical attention for symptoms that indicated severe infection and sepsis. The complaint states that the man was misdiagnosed by his doctor before he later went to the hospital for treatment of his symptoms. According to the complaint, the man waited over eight hours before he was treated and admitted to the hospital. The man’s daughter alleges that he was not properly diagnosed until signs of sepsis were discovered. She contended in the complaint that her father suffered for many hours before he died a painful death.

She believes that her father did not receive the necessary medical standard of care from the hospital. The woman states that the physicians and hospital staff are considered to be experts in their respective fields and should have correctly diagnosed her father. The complaint also alleges that the man’s death caused his daughter extreme mental anguish since he was no longer able to care for and support her.

Illinois residents who have experienced similar circumstances often seek to hold medical personnel accountable for the deaths of their loved ones. A medical malpractice attorney can investigate the actions of physicians and hospital staff and determine if their misdiagnoses and delays in treatment were factors in the deaths. If medical personnel are found to be liable by appropriate evidence, surviving family members may receive damages to help offset the cost of medical bills, funeral expenses, loss of future income and even the emotional losses associated with the care and death of their loved one. Strong legal counsel can provide invaluable assistance in achieving a successful outcome in a medical malpractice lawsuit.
