$13,500,000 Recovered For Amputee
Before trying this case in Tazewell county in 2011, the largest verdict in the county was $960,000. The injured person lost his leg in an industrial accident at Central Illinois Truss in Deer Creek.
Before trial, the defendant, MiTek Industries, offered $4,000,000 to settle. The offer was declined. The jury awarded the injured person more than $13,500,000. MiTek appealed the case all the way to the Illinois Supreme Court, but the injured person ultimately prevailed and the entire judgment plus interest was collected.

$6,000,000 Recovered For Deaths of Two Pekin Workers
In January 2018, Matt Ports negotiated $3 million settlements for the families of two downstate Illinois workers who were killed while working in a railroad car at Agridyne, LLC’s livestock feed facility in Pekin. The two men, ages 37 and 29, were exposed to toxic gas while attempting to clean the rail car and died of closed space asphyxia.
Settlements were reached between the parties prior to trial. Each $3 million settlement represents the second highest Tazewell County wrongful death award to date. Read more…
$5,000,000 Recovered In Deadly Medical Malpractice Case
In 2016, a Tazewell County jury awarded over $5 Million to the estate of a woman who hemorrhaged to death after a hysterectomy at Methodist Medical Center. Before trial, the defense offered $2,000,000 but that was declined. The jury found for the estate and against the anesthesiologist, the gynecologist and Methodist Medical Center, awarding more than $5,008,000. Shortly after trial, the defendants settled for $5,000,000.
