On that fateful sunny morning, nothing foreshadowed trouble. After a wonderful holiday in Jamaica, my two children and I were returning, in a shuttle van operated by an American company, to the airport to fly home to Chicago. Suddenly, towards our driver, traveling at a high speed, a timber truck flew out. In a matter of seconds, my whole life and the lives of my children were changed. The driver died, our van was crushed like a tin can, and it was hard to understand how we survived.

My physical injuries (which required 15+ surgeries, over the past 17 years, to treat) were incomparable to the injuries that my children received. My life turned upside down in an instant.
